my
deal?
I was a weird kid. I thought dolls were boring. I collected specimens for my microscope. I performed shows from behind our couch using a hairbrush as a microphone.
I always felt like I was on the outside looking in…until music played, That’s when I came alive. When I got my first instrument, while other kids were learning songs from the radio, I started writing my own.
The idea of sharing them with anyone terrified me…until I entrusted my beloved 11th grade English teacher Sally Neilson with a cassette tape I made for her. She told me the next day that my songs made her cry, and smile, and were incredibly poetic and touching. I suddenly found my mission. I knew music would be my way to connect.
