The Six-Month Project — Week 1
Pro Tools session for Just Be vocals

The Six-Month Project  ·  Week 2 Recap

Head down.
In the work.

Week of June 8 5 verses more music, more motion

Week two was where the rubber met the road. Less setup, more doing. Livestreams, vocal sessions, a coaching call that lit my brain on fire, and a catalog deep-dive that made my head spin — in the best and most overwhelming way.

Here's how it all went down.

verse one

Back on the stage —
even when it's a livestream.

Monday's 12pm check-in livestream kicked off the week — a public six-month project update where I shared where I was, what I was working on, and what was coming. Then Tuesday brought the regular 4pm concert livestream, which ran beautifully despite a minor technical glitch right at the start. Quickly resolved, great show.

Thursday I went live with Coffee and a Song — a shorter, more intimate set. Post-show tasks included Patreon posts, sharing replays, and getting everything into the right hands. The livestreams are like an energy drink for me. It reanimates me and is where I feel most like myself.

verse two

Vocals for "Just Be" —
making it real.

This was the big one. After recording the piano last week, I tracked vocals for "Just Be" — and then spent time editing, fixing artifacts, and refining. Pro Tools was open for hours. There were moments of flow and moments of frustration, including some editing artifacts that sent me back to redo sections.

After careful inspection (like, true micromanaging my voice!), I recorded vocal fixes on Friday. It's still not making me completely happy, but I'm getting there.

"My head is spinning with information. I'm feeling excited and truthfully, overwhelmed." — me, approximately 9:30am on Wednesday, leaving my coaching call

The coaching call
that changed the week.

Wednesday morning I had my coaching call with Mike Macdermid, and I walked out of it buzzing. New ideas, new directions, new things to research. He pointed me toward two platforms worth exploring: That Pitch — a sync pitching tool — and RightsBridge, which has some complexities around UK taxation that I need to untangle.

The insights were really informative. So was the overwhelm. I spent the rest of the morning organizing my takeaways and reassessing my goals for the week.

Down the DISCO rabbit hole (DISCO is the program I use to catalogue my songs) —
158 songs won't sort themselves.

One of Mike's first assignments: get the catalog organized in DISCO* so I can actually see what I'm working with. Sounds simple. It is not simple. I spent hours on it — Wednesday afternoon, into the evening — and I'm still not done with it. Ugh. *DISCO is the program I use to catalogue my songs.

I even tried using AI to help whittle it down, but I didn't agree with its choices. Sigh…this will be ongoing…with probably a substantial amount of whining lol

158 songs. still sorting. still going.

verse five

Friday Vibe, set lists,
and a chart built from scratch.

Thursday brought a different kind of challenge: someone requested a song for next Tuesday's concert that I didn't have a chart for, so I made a simple one from scratch. The more important confession is, the reason I didn't have a chart — and haven't performed that song in literally decades — is because it reveals a very dark scar that I have been carrying for almost a lifetime. The subject matter is raw, confrontational, and to be honest, triggering. I am proud of myself for deciding to add it…even though I'm still pondering how it wound up in my request/Curator's Lounge page.

Friday I filmed, edited, captioned, scheduled, and posted the Friday Vibe video — which took up my entire morning and ran into afternoon with an end time of 12:52pm. I'm still not used to how long that type of creating takes…and I am shifting my intention to approach it with the same enthusiasm that I have when creating music.

I also designed and published a new Facebook banner in Canva to call out that my weekly concert is now on Tuesdays at 4pm ET. I kept up with the social posting that keeps everything connected. Creating content yet again…a necessary…evil? lol I then worked in the studio on a piano volume adjustment because we had changed things around when I was recording.

Early morning gym officially underway. Loved the empty gym. Less fond of the fire alarm going off — twice. Kept the earbuds in and kept going.

Connection

I noticed a very distinct shift in my intensity this week. I also felt far away from my sister and a bit isolated — hitting the ground running so early, working almost non-stop. That's worth paying attention to.

Beach sunset with friends

Weekend reset

Intentional lighter weekend — beach walk with friends, quality time with Gianni. The difference in how I felt was immediate. Sunday brought on a day of tehc-hell that was rescued by another beach walk—this time with Gianni. Note to self: Balance is not optional.
