The Six-Month Project — Week 1

The Six-Month Project  ·  Week 3 Recap

The fail that
wasn't a fail.

Week of June 15 5 verses glitchy journey, real results

One of my three goals is to get a sync placement — a song placed in a TV show, movie, or commercial. One of the steps I committed to was researching new sync libraries, and my coach urged me to sign up for a portal that submits songs to multiple libraries at once. A real time-saver, in theory.

I tried to shortcut the process. It was a big fail that sucked up my entire morning into the afternoon. I regrouped and got one song entered the old-fashioned way. By the next morning, a surprise was waiting for me that sparked a huge dopamine rush. That's the week in a nutshell: glitchy journey, real results.

Week 2 in real time —
the recap heard 'round the livestream.

Monday was a full one — updating the #SixMonthProject webpage all morning, then going live at 12:50pm for the Week 2 recap. I updated links to the project all over my socials so anyone watching could follow along.

I talked to my sister for an hour during lunch break that afternoon, which felt like exactly the right way to ground myself before heading into a rehearsal.

Another Tuesday concert —
new day, fresh magic.

The official switch to Tuesday concert day — 4pm, feeling good. Full day of prep: promo post creation, editing and sharing to socials, vocal warm-ups, rehearsal, and then going live. The show went great, I wrote my Patreon post, and the replay went out to members.

I came out of it feeling great. The day ended with contact lenses out, comfy clothes on, and dinner outside with my honey. A good kind of tired.

"13 songs entered. 20 library acceptances. That's not a typo." — me, by the end of the week, still a little stunned
verse three

The coaching call that
pointed me towards the game-changer.

Wednesday's coaching call ran over an hour — comparing AI-suggested sync picks against my own instincts, and figuring out what direction the next song should take. By mid-morning I'd joined the sync portal Mike recommended to lighten up the task of researching and applying to libraries individually. I set up my profile.

Then came the part that wasn't pretty: I tried to write code to bulk-enter songs. It didn't work even a little bit. So I entered one song by hand instead.

code: 0. me: also kind of 0. but trying.

verse four

One song. One night.
Three libraries said yes.

After the big fail from the day before, and entering but one song into the sync portal manually, the payoff came: I woke up to the news that it had been placed into three libraries. THREE. From one song, entered the time-consuming manual way, after endlessly tweaking code that didn't even run.

Breathing again. Feeling worthy.

"Your track just got accepted." read it again. yes, really.

verse five

13 songs in.
20 libraries said yes.

By Friday the momentum kept building. Vocal tuning for "Just Be" wrapped — cleaned up breaths, pops, and clicks, and suddenly the song comes to life. I attended a Zoom session where I participated in a top-line demo (writing the melody and lyrics to a song). It bloomed in real time, and collectively we wrote a verse and chorus in about 35 minutes — and we'll all get co-writer credit. Yazzz.

By the end of the week: 13 songs entered into the sync portal, 20 library acceptances. That's not a typo. That's a real number. 🥹

Lots of calls to affirm our connection. We both agreed, Mom and Dad were smiling from the hereafter. 🪽

Behind the scenes

Worked on production for "Just Be" and arrived at a place where I can confidently bring Gianni in to get the song to the finish line. Also decided to push forward with the older song rediscovered during last week's coaching call — getting it ready for submission to something BIG.

Sorted out mistakes on our phone bill, went to the dentist, followed up on a letter regarding some pennies potentially owed to us, realized my medical bills are STILL not sorted… sigh.

week 4 — on the horizon

Keep the streak alive.
Protect the breathers.

  • Keep entering songs into the sync portal
  • Finish production on "Just Be"
  • Tuesday 4pm livestream (still loving the new day)
  • Continue the sister, family, and friend check-ins
  • Allow for breathers during the day so I can keep my body and brain healthy
