The Six-Month Project  ·  Week 4 Recap

Still showing up…
even when my brain is feeling overcast. 😂

Week of June 22 5 verses showing up is the win

Week four arrived with a little less sparkle than the weeks before. I broke my commitment to maintain balance, didn't rest enough over the weekend, and boy did it clobber me — low energy, some self-doubt demons, a brief depression dip that I'm grateful didn't last.

But I kept working. The shows happened. More songs got entered into the sync portal — sync meaning music placed in TV, movies, ads, etc. The portal is a platform that pitches my songs to music libraries, which are resources that the powers that be use to find music to license. 😉 By the end of the week, I remembered something important: showing up is the win, even on the overcast days.

verse one

Just Be — done.
(Well...sort of 😣.)

Monday was full despite the low-energy start. I got into the studio, reviewed the mix for "Just Be," and by 12:12pm I had completed the bounce. That felt significant — weeks of piano takes, vocal fixes, and micro-managing my own voice, and suddenly it's a finished thing sitting in a folder…until Gianni listened in the car and decided we needed to revisit the mastering. Ugh. But ok, he cares, and that really, really matters.

Then I went live with the Week 3 recap livestream. Patreon never went live (whhhhyyyyyy????). I wrote an apology post, shared the YouTube link, and moved on — these things happen. Rehearsal in the afternoon, then out with Gianni. Yes. We went on an actual date. He knows me so well — he knew I needed to step away. We saw Disclosure Day at an actual theater. OMG!!!! I LOVED IT SOOOOO MUCH!!!! If you've seen it, I'd love to know your take. ☺️

verse two

The show went on.
Despite everything.

I started out Tuesday with the usual intentions: gym, rehearsal, creating and posting promo for the livestream, and then a show. The universe had an entirely different script planned for me.

OBS crashed at 3:15pm during my pre-show setup. Platform protocol changes on Instagram and YouTube — that we were not warned about! — created additional tech issues that were SO frustrating. I was truly being tested every step of the way, but still went live at 4pm. Despite the tech gremlins, I feel like I delivered a good show. Post created, replay sent to Patreons. Dinner got made.

In between all of that: I voted, shopped at Costco (ew), and went down an arduous rabbit hole of phone calls regarding a letter I got from SSA about a pension annuity of $147 that I may or may not be owed. Each call resulted in another place to try — finally, after being redirected to the Department of Labor, I had to push pause and schedule it for the next day. Just another Tuesday.

verse three

A new song enters
the picture. A big one.

Wednesday's coaching call was pushed from 8am to 10am so I was able to get to the gym and shower before we met on Zoom. It ran a wee bit over an hour and I could tell we were both a little tired. 😂 I caught Mike up on the week: 41 songs entered into the sync portal and a total of 43 library placements — and nearing the finish line with "Just Be!" 🥳

We talked about next steps. We agreed that finishing my entire catalog entry and hopefully getting some actual placements would be a stronger way to introduce myself to sync agents and music supervisors — so the manual odyssey continues. As of the writing of this recap: 68 tracks entered, 57 library placements. More than halfway there!

And then the big moment: we decided I should push forward with recording my song "My Luck" with hopes of entering…wait for it…EUROVISION 2027!!!!!! Yep. This is one of the songs we identified as a focus song. Now it officially is.

After the call: wrote and completed the #FridayVibes reel, went straight into the studio to start production on "My Luck," squeezed in grocery shopping, a Department of Labor follow-up call, more portal entries, and a meditation to close the day. Just Wednesday things.

breathing before the big news. then: EUROVISION. 🌟

verse four

Coffee, a song,
and a YouTube FAIL.

Thursday brought the Coffee and a Song livestream — and a tech battle first. YouTube issues threatened to derail things, but by 10:45am the stream was live and by 11:15am it was done…or so I thought. This is what I get for listening to AI. I enlisted Gemini to help me debug it. Turns out it had already resolved — but the advice I was given made it LOOK like I was livestreaming without ever going live on YouTube. Oh well. Life goes on.

I composed my replay post and sent it out to Patreons. The rest of the morning went to bills, journaling, and getting the house ready for family coming into town over the weekend — all the background-of-life stuff that doesn't stop just because you're on a creative mission. The week ended quietly. The body asked for rest. I did not do a very good job of listening…and I started to feel myself sink. Yep. Not sync, actual sinking into the ground. Sigh.

the universe gave me one real gift this week. this was it.

verse five

Not what I planned —
and that's okay.

Friday was my mother-in-law's 92nd birthday. I knew I'd see her for a birthday dinner, so I decided to tackle some admin stuff I had been ignoring — or if I'm honest, didn't have the energy or enthusiasm for.

I needed to get a grip on how many songs I actually had and how many were still not entered into the portal. After another frustrating session with AI, I wound up doing it the old-fashioned way: creating a spreadsheet, sorting, and manually checking off what was entered. Simple. Archaic. It worked. 🤣

Gianni was experiencing some bugs down in the studio. I figured out that for some unknown reason, Pro Tools had inserted an incorrect tempo into the "Just Be" session which messed up EVERYTHING. After a small tantrum and expelling all sorts of nonsense about the "Universe fighting me"…I calmed down, figured it out, and got him back on track.

I'm not proud that I lost my cool…but I'm sharing it because it's the truth. In hindsight I can detect the pattern: I didn't listen to my body, I didn't reset and recharge over the weekend, I didn't sleep well all week — and tada, self-doubt, mental meltdown, and poor-me victim consciousness ensues. I get it. I am trying to do better…says the woman writing this on Saturday morning. I need an actual assistant…or maybe just try and do a little less and create better quality? Yep. I'm a little wobbly. It's ok. I'm ok. Taking a deep breath…

After weeks of piano takes, vocal sessions, and way too much time micromanaging my own voice — "Just Be" has an official bounce. We're still tweaking, but I'm pretty sure we're done.

SSA annuity paperwork with sticky note phone numbers

adulting, continued

A myriad of phone calls and redirects. The annuity situation is still not resolved. At least I made the DOL agent chuckle: "If this was for $147,000 I'd be more enthusiastic about this rabbit hole!" All for MAYBE $147. The saga continues.

rest is a choice

This weekend I'm doing some work, but I'm really trying to listen to my body. Last week's lesson: rest isn't optional. Balance really is the whole point.

But breathe this time.

  • Continue production on "My Luck"

  • Tuesday 4pm ET livestream
  • Putting Thursday #CoffeeAndASong on hold for summer (and announce)
  • Resolve the annuity situation (fingers crossed 🤞)
