Yeah, I struggled this week
Sometimes clarity comes from unexpected places

Week of June 27 5 verses on finding order in chaos

Week eight was another rollercoaster. Started out strong and determined, very present at Monday's livestream concert…and then, sleepless nights led to self-doubt and a distorted perspective…until the silliest thing helped me regain balance.

Verse One

Week 7 in real time — the recap I was afraid to give, but wound up being the most attended

Monday, as always, was full. Over the weekend, my mother-in-law's kitty got sick and we wound up spending Saturday at the vet and then caring for the poor little guy. Thankfully, he rebounded quickly…but it did trigger some past shadows and my sleeping suffered.

I woke at my usual 6:30am on Monday morning, walked to the gym, did an intense upper body weight workout, and walked back. I dug into life stuff — submitting the kitty bill to insurance, ordering cat food — and then went right into my Monday livestream recap for the week prior. Afterwards, I rehearsed and then made dinner for hubby and his sister, who had been tag-teaming visiting my mother-in-law in rehab.

Tuesday concerts always reanimate me

A typical Tuesday — getting to the gym, getting mentally ready, vocalizing and rehearsing, and then, showtime. I felt grounded. I was happy. It was the reminder that I needed to feel in the moment, and that a show is the fuel that makes me feel present.

Canceled coaching call was replaced by a two hour Zoom

I woke at 6am only to find out my weekly coaching call was canceled…I pivoted and launched my morning routine which became a gesture of self-care, did some video editing, and answered emails.

Out of the blue, I got a text from an old friend/colleague asking if I might be available to answer some questions about "meta links…" I wasn't clear what they meant, and it turned out they meant "metadata" — the information embedded into mp3s so when a song goes out, the recipient receives our contact information as well as legal ownership, lyrics, and more. We wound up chatting for almost two hours, which definitely fulfilled the "more connection" proclamation I had recently made. The rest of the day was pretty unremarkable, other than kitty feeling much better and helping me with admin stuff!

Verse Four

The tuxedo kitty made me smile, but that black dog was scratching at the door

Walk. Gym. Walk. Try to keep my brain from slipping into depression. I knew it was waiting to pounce. Lack of sleep, no new music created, questioning myself at every step…the day was a day. I did the "responsible" things that needed to get done, and then that evening took me by surprise.

Gianni and I got into a stupid argument about the clutter in the fridge (disclaimer: we almost never fight). It wasn't anything to do with the fridge, but it was the catalyst for us to release some very pent-up energy and emotion over how taxing the last few weeks had been. I shouted "why don't we just clean it now???" and he responded with a "SURE!"…and so, at 8:30pm, both of us physically and mentally drained, we did it. After we were done there was this sense of breath and space. We could see all the shelves and what they contained. Clarity. A stupid, simple task created clarity.

Not feeling very inspired about inspiring others…until it hit me

Another crap night of sleep, so I slept in, which didn't help. It was Friday, which meant I needed to shoot a Friday Vibes video…and I really wasn't feeling very inspired. I decided to fold laundry, and when I was done, there was a sense of calm. That's when it hit me — sometimes these little tasks can be the metaphor for what our soul needs. I needed order and clarity. The fridge was the catalyst, and so that's what I went with.

Sync placements
The work that keeps paying off

I continue to get library placements for songs I uploaded to the pitch portal. To date: 130 placements.

Rebuilding an old chart
A new chart for an old song

A request came in for an old song I hadn't played in decades…and when I found the original chart, it was made in an application I'd long ago retired, so I had to figure out the song from scratch and build a new one. My ears struggled with some of the bass notes, so I enlisted hubby to help. Once he found the missing note, it all came back to me. Amazing how solid music memory can be.
